2017 Cryptography and Number Theory Boot Camp NSF-REU

Location:   Our REU site is in beautiful El Paso, Texas.   El Paso can be very hot and dry, so we recommend you use sun protection (e.g., hats/sunscreen), even if you don't usually use these.   Check out the current weather forecast.

University:   The REU program is generously hosted by the University of Texas at El Paso, UTEP.   You can find a campus map here.

Travel:   Travel days for non-local participants are May 28 and July 1.   El Paso is served by the El Paso International Airport, and those students flying in will be contacted about transportation from the airport.

Housing:   Housing is provided on the UTEP campus for non-local participants at Miner Village, 2401 N. Oregon St.   It is a great location--a very short walk to campus, as well as to many restaurants and a grocery store.   Basic linens are provided, and there is a shared kitchen.   Take note that dishes and pans are not provided, so if you would like to cook, you can check out a thrift store like Savers.

The campus housing office is in Miner Village, which is where you will pick up your key. If the office is closed when you arrive, you can still check in by calling the on-duty staff at 915-525-1452.

Food and transportation:   The grocery store Albertsons is a short walk from Miner Village, and many restaurants and bars are within walking distance as well.

Sun Metro Transit serves El Paso, including the BRIO rapid transit line, which stops at UTEP.

Supplies:   Notebooks and pens/pencils are available at reasonable prices at the UTEP printing office in the Hertzog Building near the University Library.
